Biography
Angela Mattox brings 25 years of experience in facilitating contemporary performing arts and interdisciplinary practice, working as a curator, artistic director, and funder. Her curatorial approach focuses on experimental practice, cross-cultural exchange, and interdisciplinary work and she is dedicated to nurturing meaningful intersections between art, ideas and audiences, with local and global resonance. She has presented curatorial projects at Wiener Festwochen (Vienna, Austria), and Palais de Tokyo. She was Artistic Director of PICA and the TBA Festival (Portland, Oregon) from 2011-2017, and Performing Arts Curator at YBCA (San Francisco, California) from 2003-2008. She is currently based in NYC and is the Director of Artist Initiatives at Creative Capital Foundation- a nonprofit organization that provides grants and professional support to innovative artists across the US through funding and career development services. Mattox is named to the rank of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters, has been a member of co-producing networks such as the Director’s Circle, the Contemporary Arts Centers network and the Africa Contemporary Arts Consortium, and has advanced global exchange in the arts through panel service for FUSED, French US Exchange in Dance, and the Japan Foundation. She received her BA degree through the World Arts and Cultures program of UCLA.
