Marlène Mocquet was invited to discover the Déchelette museum in Spring 2021. Seduced by the immense variety of generalist collections developed over more than two centuries, the idea of carrying out a specific production, based on the wealth of works discovered in storage, has quickly sprouted. The exhibition will take place on the entire 1st floor of the 18th century mansion which will be re-invented by the artist, recognized for taking possession of the places she invests. Carte blanche is given to Marlène Mocquet for this exhibition, fully participating in the museum's reinvention project.

For a year in total, Marlene Mocquet engaged herself in an important production of ceramic sculptures, paintings and the design of a scenographic environment. In total, the artist produced 13 ceramic sculptures and 11 paintings for the exhibition and designed the universe of 6 rooms for which she notably designed unique double curtains. But how to question a place and a collection covering more than 3000 years of Art History? The artworks of the museum, omnipresent, nourish the reflection of the artist around a very particular introspection: Marlène Mocquet has chosen to invest her family circle and close friends to exchange with them, question them on their centers of interest and thus identify for each one a strong theme. These discussions were the starting point for searching the museum's reserves and selecting works that resonated with the passions dear to his ascendants / descendants.

The ceramic sculptures, which are in fact portraits, integrate the objects chosen and faithfully reproduced, with a whole set of modeled elements from the artist's universe. The sculpture once fired and enamelled is photographed. The snapshot serves as the basis for a painting in which Marlène Mocquet develops her pictorial universe by integrating a photographic image of the sculpture. From this painting, she extracts a detail, becoming the main motif for the creation of a double curtain. This double curtain is one of the elements of the showroom. Marlène Mocquet offers, with this exhibition, a real mise en abyme supported by the overall scenography. Modeling, molding, digitization, painting, printing, so many ways of doing things nourish creation, nourish reflection and enrich the narration. The exploration of the works in their evocative installation will offer broad perspectives of emotions and discoveries. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and public holidays. Temporary exhibition access: €4.70 The exhibition will be accompanied by a 144-page catalogue.
