Studio Safar, founded in 2012 by Maya Moumne and Hatem Imam, is a design agency and publisher operating from Beirut, Lebanon and Montreal, Canada.

Studio Safar created a huge mural on the facade of Lyon’s Part-Dieu train station. It imagined a floral silk scarf emblazoned by calligraphic banners holding the names of Beirut and Lyon, prompting us not to forget France’s prominent role in the silk industry to Lebanon, which spurred a veritable transformation in the country with both positive and negative consequences. If Lyon’s silk industry contributed greatly at one time to the modernization of Lebanon and its wealth, it was also the cause of ecological problems leading to famines and massive migrations. Studio Safar also designed the graphic identity for the 16th Lyon Biennale.
