BDPD, Francesc Ruiz, from June,11th until October,10th, 2026. Curator : Camille Richert. For one summer, artist Francesc Ruiz transforms la Salle de bains into a homoerotic bookstore. The publications are available for consultation on site and sold for 5 euros each.
BDPD, Francesc Ruiz - The installation BDPD that Francesc Ruiz presents at La Salle de bains plays on an expression that is as fictitious as it is transparent, ‘bédé pédé’, by which the artist refers to a whole body of homoerotic comic books to which the drawings on display in the exhibition pay homage and from which they draw inspiration.
The artist works with the abbreviated and condensed version of the terms – ‘bdpd’ – which he transforms into a trope whose repetition (‘bdpdbdpdbdpd’) evokes both the algorithms of conceptual art and sequences of genetic code.
From this starting point, he explores the possibilities of creating a pornotypographic language to which he gives various forms, speculating on the closet, the circulation of desire, encrypted communication and the transitivity of alternative hentai. As is customary in his contextual practice, Ruiz links his research to Lyon—the city, its streets, its archives and its communities—in order to deploy different distributive strategies which take the form of a publication, an intervention in public space and an exhibition at the Salle de bains.
La Salle de bains pays close attention to all its audiences: for this reason, we point out that some illustrations shown in the "BDPD" exhibition are not suitable for young unaccompanied visitors.
