“From Here, the Horizon” is a dialogue between Carolyn Garcia’s paper pieces and Nicolas David’s ceramics. Using natural materials and both traditional and innovative techniques, the two artists explore the fruitful tension between anchorage and travel.

Carolyn Garcia and Nicolas David share a common interest for the living, for gestures of care and transformation, for slow processes, and fort the connections we as humans sustain with the places we live in or carry around with us. Starting from the exploration of natural materials, their works reflect the landscapes they admire and walk through, but they also become wider spaces for projection, contemplation, and interrogation. How can we fully inhabit a place while allowing other narratives, other memories, other horizons to arise and circulate? Can we find more virtuous ways of travelling that can still open our eyes and nourish our creativity?

Through ceramics, recycled paper, mineral pigments and plant-based dyes, and thanks to traditional and innovative processes, the two artists explore the traces left by time and human activity, and their impact on the transformation of landscapes.

The exhibition takes place in the windows of an office space in the heart of the Croix-Rousse, and can be visited independently every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (lighting hours). The visit is complemented by online pages presenting specifically the materials and the creative processes. Visits with the artists every Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
