The exhibition Echoes offers an exploration of sonic environments: what do we actually hear in our living spaces? How can they be designed, analysed and represented? Between creation, research and professional practice, the exhibition invites a sensitive and documented approach to listening.
Whether merely heard, listened to, or more attentively perceived, sonic environments contribute to our overall sensory balance. They shape societies, while their acoustic spaces are in turn transformed by our ways of living. Today, describing and naming sounds and their acoustics is a way of consciously acting upon these transformations. The Echoes exhibition, presented in Lyon, explores ways of thinking about and making landscape through sound.
It brings together three interconnected strands: projects developed by sound designers and specialist engineering consultancies; utopian proposals imagined by students and artists; and research projects that document, analyse, or develop tools for experimenting with sonic environments.
The exhibition is punctuated by a series of associated events entitled Listeners (full programme available). Exhibition conceived and produced by the Sonotopic collective, the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Lyon, the EVS-LAURe laboratory – UMR 5600 CNRS, and the ACIRÉNE association (Workshop for creation, research and study on the sound environment).
