The exhibition brings together 160 works by 40 American artists from the collections of the Mia and the MAMC+, from 1950 to the present day.
Bringing together works from the collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole, “Flying Colors” explores nearly 75 years of American art, from the 1950s to today. Through 160 works by forty artists, the exhibition creates a dialogue between two major collections brought together through the FRAME network (FRench American Museum Exchange).
Paintings, sculptures, installations, and works on paper reflect the artistic exchanges between Europe and the United States after World War II, in a context shaped by creative freedom and transatlantic circulation. The exhibition’s title refers to a painted airplane by Alexander Calder, symbolizing this dynamic of exchange and influence.
The first chapter of a Franco-American partnership, “Flying Colors” will be followed in 2030 by a presentation of the MAMC+ collections at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
