Ghosted by...

Ghosted by… explores the affective economies of labour through the lens of romance. As contemporary work—and artistic labour in particular—increasingly mobilises desire as much as productivity, it no longer simply organises tasks or structures time, but produces forms of attachment that draw on registers traditionally associated with romantic relationships.

Between institutional love bombing, ghosting, polyprofessional relationships, weekly general assemblies, temporary residencies, burnout, Sunday work, and farewell drinks, the grammars of work and intimacy come to share the same affects, edging towards an assimilation with life itself. It is not so much that work has become romanticised, but rather that capitalism has learned that desire produces more effectively than discipline—even if the promises we continue to believe in sometimes contribute to exhaustion through quasi-amorous rituals.

Situated at the intersection of exhibition, live performance, assembly, and celebration, Ghosted by… is interested in the moment when the desire to make has not yet become indistinguishable from the obligation to succeed, and where commitment has not fully turned into dependency.
