Elisabeth GILBERT DRAGIC invites Marie-Agnès CHARPIN to exhibit in her studio
Marie-Agnès Charpin's work explores the notions of time and movement through drawing and painting.Since the 1990s, she has developed an approach based on image composition systems, using calendars, repetition, and variation. Her process-oriented work is part of a quest to visualize time.
Composed of diagrams, modular and variable combinations, and rigorous geometric structures, Charpin's works highlight dichotomous relationships between void and fullness, form and ground, and black and white. They question the possibility of representing time not as a narrative, but primarily as an image, ultimately rendering the invisible visible. Through series of drawings and paintings, the artist seeks to "capture time" and preserve an image of it. Each work results from a precise protocol, where repetition and variation become tools for reflection. She questions our relationship to historical and romantic time.
Through a demanding and methodical practice, she constructs a body of work that creates a dialogue between abstraction, temporality, and sensory experience. Her work is distinguished by a minimalist aesthetic. Frequently associated with conceptual art, concrete art, and minimalism, there is no doubt that Marie-Agnès Charpin belongs to this school of thought.
