The artist Myrtille Bouvret and the researcher-glaciologist Jean-Baptiste Bosson bring together artistic and scientific perspectives. A conversation exploring their field practices and the ways art and science document and make visible the ongoing transformations of Alpine landscapes.
Although rooted in different disciplines, the practices of Myrtille Bouvret and Jean-Baptiste Bosson share a common attentiveness to the field.
This conversation explores the connections between artistic creation and scientific research in response to the contemporary transformations of Alpine environments, asking what it means to observe, document and make visible a world undergoing profound change.
In her artistic practice, Myrtille Bouvret investigates water in its most fragile forms. Through the collection and imprinting of ephemeral materials such as snow, ice and frost, she creates sensitive archives of a disappearing winter. Rooted in the Alpine landscape, her work combines observation, documentation and field recording to reveal transformations that often escape our attention.
Echoing this approach, Jean-Baptiste Bosson documents the evolution of glaciers and high-mountain environments in order to better understand the effects of climate change and communicate this knowledge.
Together, they will discuss how artistic and scientific practices can complement one another in making environmental change perceptible and in shaping new ways of understanding and inhabiting Alpine territories.
This conversation is part of L’îlot-S cultural season in connection with the exhibition Holding water, a little longer.
