Through a dialogue between the artist’s works—prints, textile et photographic installations—and the museum’s collection, Garance Alves explores textiles as a space of memory and examines the role of clothing in our daily lives. What remains of clothing when the body is no longer there?
La Maison du Blanchisseur – Musée hosts the artist Garance Alves. This solo exhibition presents five series by the artist that explore the role of clothing in our daily lives. What remains of clothing when the body is absent? How can we represent the memory of bodies and gestures? Through photographs, prints, and textile installations, the artist collects traces and highlights what endures. A series created using items from the museum’s collections offers a glimpse into a fragment of our history: that of the laundry workers’ gestures.
