How can we make change visible? The exhibition Metamorphosis. States of Change brings together seven emerging artists from Germany who – each through their own photographic lens – explore the various forms of change, whether political, cultural, ecological or digital.

From 25 September to 20 November 2026, the Goethe-Institut Lyon presents projects by seven students in visual journalism and documentary photography from the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Referring to societal and cultural turning points, as well as crises, political conflicts and transformations of ecosystems, the projects highlight the dynamics and origins of change. Through a variety of photographic approaches, the artists thus question fixed identities and linear narratives.

At the exhibition’s opening, the seven artists will discuss at the Goethe-Institut Lyon the ruptures, transitions, and also the potentialities of these changes – and the ways in which they are embodied in social, ecological, and political realities.
