A desire to make art accessible. This project explores the economy through the lens of absence: not what we own, but what we throw away, what we forget, what we do not see
This project explores the economy through the lens of absence: not what we own, but what we throw away, what we forget, what we no longer see. All materials – kraft paper, paper, cardboard, canvas… – are sourced or acquired through a virtuous cycle. The cardboard, paper and kraft paper come from local households and businesses: crumpled packaging, used paper, and shipping boxes destined for disposal. The materials are collected before they are shredded or incinerated, because they still retain a texture, a crease, a memory. The canvases come from non-profit organisations specialising in social reintegration.
Nothing is new, nothing is wasted. It is a real economy: what is discarded or donated becomes a medium for art, and what is sold helps to support the livelihoods of those whom some call the ‘invisible’.
