Through Another’s Eyes, Yours, by Johanna Quillet explores the connections between architecture, care and human presence within the Pierre Garraud Geriatric Hospital. Through a creative space and photographic research, the project reveals the gestures, bodies and relationships that inhabit this place.
Through Another’s Eyes, Yours, is an artistic project developed at the Pierre Garraud Geriatric Hospital as part of a long-term residency within the Lyon University Hospital Group (Hospices Civils de Lyon) by photographer and visual artist Johanna Quillet. Through a creative space established at the heart of the institution and a research process centred on the image, the project reveals the presences, gestures and relationships that shape everyday hospital life.
Designed as a threshold, the architectural module hosts a space for research, encounters and creation. It opens up a space of respite within the institution, where habitual rhythms can shift and where other forms of attention and connection can emerge.
Currently in development, the residency is built from the hospital’s spaces, its circulation areas, materials, light and the bodies that inhabit and move through them: caregivers, staff members, residents and patients. The photographic images emerging from this research within the hospital create a sensitive reading of the place, attentive to care gestures, human presences and the relationships woven between people and the architecture.
Through portraits and photographic images produced as part of the project, the work seeks to make visible bodies in their singularity, beyond the functions and roles assigned to them. The hospital becomes a lived landscape, crossed by memories, narratives and multiple temporalities.
