Promenades presents a journey through the work of Pierre Mercier (1946–2016), whose practice combined sculpture, photography, film, language and transmission. Presented at Laroquebrou Castle, the exhibition brings together works, films and installations created between 1980 and 2010.

Presented as part of Résonance, the associated programme of the 2026 Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, Promenades offers an introduction to the work of Pierre Mercier (1946–2016).

Artist, teacher and a key figure of the Strasbourg art scene, Pierre Mercier developed a singular practice at the intersection of sculpture, photography, film and writing. His work gives an essential place to the viewer, particularly through questions of perspective and perception.

Spread throughout Laroquebrou Castle, the exhibition brings together photographs, drawings, sculptures, installations and films produced between the 1980s and the 2000s. Special attention is given to the Promenades series, a group of short films exploring memory, associations of ideas and the transmission of knowledge.

The exhibition unfolds as a journey through memory, representation, language and perception, offering visitors the opportunity to rediscover a major body of work whose influence can still be felt among several generations of artists.
