Conceived as a dive into fresh and iodine-rich waters, the exhibition Roberto mio palmo ! offers a sensitive, poetic and playful approach, imbued with a touch of humor, a bit of irony, and a hint of utopia. It aims to reveal the sublime, the wondrous, and the fragile nature of aquatic environments.
“Roberto mio palmo!” (Roberto, my palms!), the iconic line from Luc Besson’s film The Big Blue, which left its mark on generations (including the artist’s), this title heralds a plunge, an immersion, but one that cannot be undertaken alone. It is a team effort, a collaboration. By inhabiting this space dedicated to the living world and scientific culture, the painter and illustrator Merrycailloujungle fulfills her desire to let art slip into every corner. She invites visitors to participate in her “collective dream” where art is an exchange, and the artworks serve as open propositions. Questioning the world and seeking poetry everywhere are integral to her approach. “In my view, the value of a work is measured above all by the effect it has: first, on the artist at the exact moment of creation and when it reveals itself to them upon completion; and second, on the viewer who observes it. In both cases, it sparks reflection, imagination, desire, and creativity. In my work, each creation is a story, and like a story, it has a title that defines it. This title is a pathway to interpretation, an integral part of the artistic proposition. It helps us understand what is happening, imagine what happened before, and envision the outcome. The viewer’s gaze gives life and meaning to the work, and that is precisely what interests me: offering an individual and collective creative experience, and sharing emotions.”
