IN THE GLOW OF OUR LACK views graphic work as an act of extraction. It is not merely a matter of recording reality, but of making a cut, a selection. The focus is on what remains after erasure: chosen fragments, traces, and residues left for the viewer to interpret.
Usually associated with grief or frustration, the absence here is that of the missing mold— a fertile crucible and a recessed space through which the drawing gains momentum without melancholy. In response to realities that are hammered home, overrepresented, and sometimes hard to swallow, the artists gathered here practice a deliberate economy of forgetting, where the absent becomes a driving force for creation.
Crafted in relief, the drawing anchors itself to the edge of a void, in the pleasure of the gesture, the discreet joy of the line that persists, diverges, or retreats. The works of Ariane Crozet, Matt Coco, Magalie Darsouze, Violaine Desportes, Lionel Grassot, Jeanne Held, Yoan Lafragette, Suan Müller, and Mélanie Planche offer us an impression of this in the physical and sensory sense of the term. Where the figure is missing, the eye that perceives it becomes a full-fledged participant in the image: such is the discreet invitation underlying this exhibition.
