Eryka JURA : Une artiste académique invitée qui ne correspond pas à la programmation habituelle de la galerie se « frotte » aux créateurs apparentés à l’Art Brut

Eryka JURA is a visual artist who mainly lives and works in Łódź. She is a lecturer at the Académie des Beaux-Arts, as well as a tattoo artist, an independent costume and set designer, and a performer in short films, video clips and dance productions, …

The residency at La Rage gallery and within its surrounding environment will provide Eryka JURA with an opportunity to place her creative process in dialogue with that of artists associated with the gallery's Outsider Art practice.

Eryka JURA draws inspiration both from sacred art, deeply rooted in Polish culture, and from fifteenth-century Dutch portraiture. Her “academic” palette, often associated with bourgeois traditions, will encounter those of self-taught artists. These “ordinary men”, as Dubuffet described them, compose palettes born from their own impulses, shaped by the darkness and brilliance of their inner worlds. Two distinct creative processes, two forms of transformation, meeting within the same threshold-space of art.

Throughout the biennial, Eryka JURA will serve as a connecting thread through the gallery’s activities, with moments of encounter, creation, and exhibition conceived as “a permanent celebration, a convivial space, art as an eternal and collective process.” Her works will resonate with those of the gallery’s outsider artists, questioning the meaning of art as a commentary on the ways of the world. From one dream to another - or from one nightmare to another, they translate what haunts them.
