Playground: Tested by Gender is the residency project of photographer Tim Douet at UFR STAPS Lyon 1. In resonance with the Lyon Biennale 2026, it explores, through participatory photography, the links between sport, body, gender, performance and inclusion.

As part of its policy to support contemporary creation and foster dialogue between arts and sciences, the Cultural Affairs Department of Lyon 1 Claude Bernard University is hosting photographer Tim Douet as an artist-in-residence at the UFR STAPS (Faculty of Sports Sciences) for the 2025-2026 academic year. His project, Terrain de jeux – À l’épreuve du genre (Playground – Tested by Gender), was selected as part of Résonance, a program associated with the 18th edition of the Lyon Contemporary Art Biennale in 2026.

Through a multi-month immersion within the university, Tim Douet offers a sensitive and documentary exploration of sporting practices, considered as spaces where representations of the body, gender relations, mechanisms of inclusion, and forms of social recognition are constructed. Combining photography, scientific research, and public participation, the project questions the norms that permeate the world of sport while giving a voice to those who experience it daily.

This residency fully illustrates the Cultural Mission's commitment to breaking down barriers between disciplines and opening the university to its local community. By fostering encounters between students, faculty, staff, community partners, and the general public, it transforms artistic creation into a catalyst for collective reflection and knowledge sharing.

Through photographic reports, participatory workshops, and a final exhibition, the project will highlight the diversity of backgrounds, bodies, and sporting experiences. It will contribute to enriching the dialogue between artistic creation, research, and society, while affirming the university's role as a place of cultural innovation, experimentation, and empowerment. This approach is central to the values upheld by the Cultural Mission: promoting access to art, encouraging participation, and creating spaces for encounters where new perspectives on contemporary issues are developed.
