“The Paper Tells a Story of Silk” is an immersive exhibition that explores the memory and imaginaries linked to sericulture. Through paper and its installations, the transmission of knowledge, intercultural exchanges, and the poetry of ancient legends are questioned.
The artists Anny Blaise, Suhail, Pascale Bernard Lacour, and Shasha Shaikh, all passionate about paper, express their talent through this material. They offer a cultural and historical journey that blends a wide variety of paper-related techniques.
The Legend of Xi Ling Shi, a cardboard installation symbolizes traditional Chinese architecture. The Batik technique was used to create the backdrop which represents the founding figure. Beneath mulberry cocoons, a paper teacup marks the beginning of The Crossing; The Silk Road unfolds through stamps, conceived as authentic landscape paintings.
The series of folding screens illustrates the different practices used in each country and the evolution of production up to industrialization with the creation of Industry: The Wall of Memory.
Inhabitants of these countries, dressed in traditional costumes, are delicately reflected in the Psyches. Finally, the evocation of fashion, the quintessential expression of textiles, tells its own story. The exhibition is open every day (see website for opening hours).
