Thomas Goux, born in 1978, is an artist-designer who graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Etienne. His activity as a visual artist, sculpture, painting, installation and performance questions the relationship between man and his environment. He lives and works in Saint-Etienne.
Inspired by the damage caused to ancient trees during the Lothar and Martin storms of December 1999, Thomas Goux has for several years been creating sculptures made from beams of trees tensioned before being broken, for which he combines performance, sound and visual recording to capture the moment of the break. By using and showing the slow time of the inner process of the tree before the crackles and the brutality of the break, it leads us to question ourselves, metaphorically, on the slow and insidious springs of violence. He makes this "object-poetry", this "action-poetry" a true extension of the poetic field.
