The solo show features drawings, paintings and objects created by Anne Petrequin in the last past years. Born in 1952 in Paris, she now lives and works in Lyon and on the island of Groix. A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts, she holds an agrégation and a PhD in visual arts, and has contributed to a number of books in collaboration with poets.

This exhibition presents works – sometimes minuscule – comprising drawings, engravings, collections and arrangements of labels. This is a long-term endeavour – one that may stretch out and be resumed over several years – in which practice and writing are interwoven around the themes of duplication, the infinitesimal difference, and the void. Captive figures, suspended or in free fall. And a few places of respite or rejection, such as caves or the like. Beings and places. Can we glimpse their duplicity, the double meaning of their appearance? Sleep, desire, cruelty. Getting as close as possible, to the point of near-blindness, both during the creation process and afterwards. A moment of suspense, an absence, a sense of unease. Hoping that one does not see at first glance what is presented. It is possible to overlook the contorted, coiled animals, to fail to see the connections between the beings – almost ghosts or beasts – to perceive the cave as a place of threat or as a refuge.
