"Fault line" exhibition by Chantal Fontvieille from September 15 to November 12, 2022
This exhibition take the form of a retrospective with a focus on the last two decades, the artist being represented by the gallery since 2004. The medium, and the unique theme of her work, of her research is the Target: Chantal Fontvieille has been practicing all her life around the complexity of this motif. The targets are mostly recovered from shooting ranges after use. The target, elaborated by the artist, is the erect body that one seeks to take, to touch and which remains, immutable, in front, at a distance. Bruised, damaged, crumpled, wounded. It incarnates the loss, in its absolute and its totality, the impossible mourning.
The impacted target is a wounded human body and just like the body, it presents two plastic faces, a recto, a verso, and a heart that one seeks to reach. It is a reflection on the gesture and on the figure of the shooter, compared to the artist, a representation of the flesh and the bruised body, both universal and outdated of a perfectly concentric world...
Mirror of the world, Chantal Fontvieille's target is also the bearer of intuitions and potentialities of the shooter, those of the artist and even of the visitor who asks himself questions. It is waiting for the shot, it is an aim of knowledge.
