The “eco-engraving project at a third place » offers a perspective on the BOB—Bâtiment Ouvert aux Bifurcations—within Étape 22D in Villeurbanne. The two artists—Laura Ben Haïba and Rémi De Chiara—have had their studio there since February 2025. In their individual practices and as a duo, they explore these spaces and create fragmented portraits of them, blending documentary and fiction.
With their multifaceted lives, spaces of transitional urbanism condense—within a short period of time—various uses, ways of occupying them, and the memories that take shape there. The layers of time are clearly visible—between spaces that have been transformed and those left as they are—and these spaces are filled with questions and tensions surrounding the transformation of cities and the ways in which each person finds a place within them.
In the spring and summer of 2026, Laura Ben Haïba and Rémi De Chiara invite the public—neighbors or occupants—to represent the transitional space and thereby preserve a memory of it. The tools used are those of printmaking, specifically intaglio. The materials used for the plates are recycled, in keeping with the BOB’s identity. Drawing on a collection of photographs, each participant is guided in creating an image that contributes to a collective record of the site.
The exhibition captures these moments, echoing the works of the two artists.
