L’Atelier Sumo is hosting an exhibition bringing together the artists Anne Renaud and Laetitia Isaac. Through two distinctive artistic practices, informed by a focus on forms, bodies and emotions, their works create spaces where intimate sensations and shared experiences engage in dialogue. This exhibition offers an opportunity to discover their recent creative explorations.
This year, Atelier Sumo is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To mark the start of this special year, the studio is organising a collaboration between an artist who has left her mark on the venue’s history and an artist from another creative space in Lyon. Anne Renaud, a resident at the studio from 2013 to 2020, and Laetitia Isaac, a resident artist at the Atelier Monopôle: this exhibition continues the story of a space open to exchanges and interactions between artists.
Brought together at Atelier Sumo, the works of Anne Renaud and Laetitia Isaac represent two distinct approaches that converge in their focus on the ways in which we relate to the world. One through painting, the other through installation, they construct spaces where bodies, materials and traces come together to form open-ended situations. The exhibition creates a dialogue between these two practices, centred on what connects people and things: forces of attraction, precarious balances, gestures of care as well as movements of rupture. Without seeking to resolve these tensions, it is an invitation to inhabit this in-between space.
