Across two gardens, the project sets stories of desired futures in motion. Gathered from visitors, they resonate through the space, are transcribed onto edible paper, then redistributed among soil, plants, and insects, nurturing a shared imagination.

For a seed to grow, it must first disappear. Perhaps dreams follow the same law.

Presented at Place Maréchal-Lyautey as part of the 2026 Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, Eve Koeppel's installation gathers dreams, hopes and visions of desirable futures shared by visitors. Within the garden, these voices remain present as a quiet murmur, perceptible only to those who choose to pause and listen. They also continue their journey through a dedicated online platform.

Each dream is carefully transcribed by hand onto edible paper using edible ink. Eve Koeppel then incorporates it through a simple yet singular gesture, combining it with clay before returning it to the garden. The dream is no longer preserved as testimony. It is entrusted to the living world, where its transformation continues beyond language.

Rather than treating memory as something to archive, the work understands it as something that circulates, evolves and takes root through encounter. The garden becomes a place where imagination is cultivated not as an individual possession but as a shared capacity to shape possible futures.

At the end of the Biennale, the collected dreams will be brought together in a book—not as the record of a collection, but as the trace of an ongoing process whose true form lies in what has been set into motion.
