During this talk, Pascale Obolo will outline the various commitments that shape her life as an artist, filmmaker-researcher, edithor of the journal Afrikadaa, and curator, focusing on the themes of collectives and the commons. Together, we will gradually shift our focus toward the sensory and olfactory dimensions evoked by the concept of the commons.
Collective practice becomes a political act that resists forms of commodification and co-optation. Why is it necessary to practice the common and work collectively? Is this a way to resist the concentration of cultural industries?
During this gathering, we will discuss the emergence of the collective and the commons in artistic, editorial, and curatorial practices. These multifaceted aspects will inform our reflections and actions as we explore the question of the sensory and the olfactory experience. Moving between political and economic critique, analysis of institutional and privatizing mechanisms, and co-creation practices, we will outline the contours of a form of the commons.

How does our social identity influence our perception of the world? From an olfactory perspective, this remains a great mystery. Géraldine Coppin, a professor of psychology at UniDistance Suisse and an associate member of the Interfaculty Center for Affective Sciences, will be joining us to present a scientific experiment prepared specifically for this event.
