A discussion on the realities surrounding the creation of calls for proposals and the responses to them. By speaking with both the people who issue these calls—and who must sometimes reject projects—and the artists who respond to them, we aim to shed light on the real challenges of this selection process.

During a two-hour discussion to be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, this panel will explore the realities surrounding the creation of calls for proposals and the responses submitted to them. By speaking with, on the one hand, those who issue these calls—and who inevitably must reject projects—and, on the other, the artists who respond to them—often as their only means of finding work—this discussion will seek to shed light on the real difficulties of this selection method, which remains the predominant approach in the world of contemporary art. By inviting people from diverse backgrounds—those who respond to these calls, create them, circumvent them, propose them, or question them—the panel aims to broaden the discussion on the concepts of competition and selection in the field of contemporary art.
