Biography
Leilah Babirye’s sculptures are made from materials the artist collects from the streets—discarded objects, scrap metal, and found materials—which she combines with elements such as silver, copper, and cermics. Through a process of reclaiming what is perceived as unwanted, these sculptures become, for the artist, living beings that breathe and are given names, forming a group of figures that represent the queer community.
