Biography
Through processes of deconstruction and recomposition, Nicholas Mangan works with objects marked by historical traces to develop what he describes as “material storytelling”. His practice examines the conditions that shape relationships between nature, technology and value, attending to the circulation and systems of exchange. Rather than illustrating history, he reconfigures its material traces, revealing underlying tensions. His projects have notably brought into relation ancient and contemporary forms of currency or explored natural phenomena as sites of transformation. Across sculpture and moving image, Mangan approaches global dynamics through their physical manifestations.
