Now repurposed as a cultural venue, Grandes Locos are hosting the 17th Lyon Biennale, where the site’s history will resonate in the artists’ works, which speak of travel and movement, repair and care, collective strength, and protest.

Located on the banks of the Rhône, not far from its confluence with the Saône, les Grandes Locos occupy a site spanning several dozen hectares. This vast industrial complex was inaugurated in 1846 by the Compagnie des hauts fourneaux, forges et ateliers d’Oullins and became an SNCF technical centre during the twentieth century. In 2023, the Lyon Metropolitan Authority established les Grandes Locos to transform this former industrial site into a cultural venue unlike any other in France, hosting major events on the contemporary cultural scene.
