In Carrau, three brightly coloured inflatable sculptures occupy the exit. Their orange, yellow, green and blue chambers swell into the architecture, held upright by a constant flow of air. The mechanical hum of their motors is echoed in the work’s onomatopoeic title. Visitors pass through soft, yielding openings, briefly inhabiting the work before emerging on the other side. The same air that sustains these inflatable forms also carries the voice into language. Throughout her practice, Estruch returns to such thresholds, treating voice, language and the body not simply as subjects of sculpture but as its material. While voice is often understood through the meanings it conveys, Estruch redirects attention to its physical conditions: air, breath, effort, rhythm, vibration, distance and the fact of one body breathing, one body sounding in the presence of another.

Laia Estruch develops a practice situated between sculpture and performance, exploring the ways in which sound and the body move through social and architectural spaces. Her work investigates the limits of the voice as a sculptural and spatial material, examining how breath, movement and rhythm shape our collective experience of public space.
