Igor Simić – Loophole Level in Golf Club: Wasteland, 2026

Golf Club: Wasteland imagines a future in which ecological collapse has killed most of humanity and the wealthy have escaped to Mars, returning to Earth only to play golf among the ruins. Igor Simić extends this world in Loophole, a new Lyon-inspired level of the video game presented as a playable installation. Visitors control the golfer with a red nuclear button, while physical and virtual neon signs share the language of finance, gaming and online culture. One reads SMURFING – a term that describes both expert gamers hiding behind low-ranked accounts and the practice of dividing large sums of money into smaller transactions to evade scrutiny. A radio broadcast features a former billionaire recalling the tax, legal and financial loopholes through which he preserved his wealth. Like cheat codes, these loopholes are not failures of the system but advantages available to those with capital and specialist knowledge. Loophole presents global finance as a game whose rules can be manipulated while others bear the consequences.

Igor Simić situates his moving image practice within expanded systems of mediation, integrating video games, writing and installation. His work examines the ideological and affective structures of contemporary capitalism, with particular attention to how technological systems shape perception and value.
