Located on the first floor of the Condition des Soies, in the heart of the slopes of La Croix-Rousse, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998, the Lyon 1st District Library occupies a historic building constructed between 1804 and 1814. Formerly used to assess the quality and humidity of silk passing between merchants and weavers, the building is now a listed historic monument and houses a public library, a community center, and various associations.
