WangShui’s work explores the entanglement of human and machine consciousness. The large-scale panoramic painting Hyphal Stream, created for the Lyon Biennale, comes from the “Isle of Vitr.°.ous” series - an otherworldly landscape co-authored by the artist and Artificial intelligence. WangShui describes it as a “non-place that exists only in the gel between structures of perception”. Devised as an optic work, playing with detail and distance, transparency and opacity, this “machine painting” challenges traditional notions of authorship, landscape and scale.
