Established in 1969 in response to the growing need for parking, Lyon Parc Auto manages public car parks throughout the city. Since 1989, LPA has implemented an original policy to showcase contemporary art, transforming around twenty underground or covered car parks with museum-quality works in situ by artists such as Daniel Buren (Parc Célestins) or François Morellet (Parc République). The result is a unique ensemble, accessible to all.
LPA’s commitment to contemporary art in the public space makes it a natural partner for the 16th Lyon Biennale. The car park, as a tool to manage the accelerating mobility of our society, is in itself emblematic of the fragility of our overgrown cities, where the question of sustainability is more pertinent than ever.
