Death has not ended the lives of these owls. Removed from their original habitats, they continue another existence as museum specimens, their bodies sustaining the appearance of life long after death. Drawn from the vast ornithological collections of the Musée des Confluences, they bring together species that vary widely in size and appearance. From small woodland owls to imposing eagle owls and snowy owls of the Arctic, they reflect the breadth of biodiversity preserved within the collection. Across many cultures, owls have acted as messengers between the worlds of the living and the dead. These specimens now undertake another passage, carrying bodies once animated by flight into the museum, where death becomes a condition of knowledge.
