Pauline CHALOPIN, a self-taught artist and painter exploring the strangeness of the soul, places her works in dialogue with those of the academically trained painter Eryka JURA.

Confinements,

In your opinion, which is preferable? To be trapped inside? Or to be trapped outside? I want neither. Yet this question has haunted me for a long time.

Is it better to be mad among the living, or the only one standing among the alienated? And at what moment do we decide that someone is mad?

Some things haunt me that way: they spin and spin, like the maximum spin cycle of a washing machine that has gone wrong.

But perhaps sometimes we are neither one nor the other. We are both. There are passages. The outside invades the inside: swollen roots that embrace us to death. Protect yourself quickly. Or else it is the inside - with its noises and smells - that strikes toward the outside, pounding, I want to get out. Knock knock knock, it echoes in my head. Louder and louder. Screams. Tearing apart. Open me, Let me out, I want the day, I want the light, I am suffocating.
