Michela de Mattei & Invernomuto — Paraflu, 2025

Michela de Mattei and the artist duo Invernomuto collaborated on Paraflu, a film investigating the return of the wolf to northern Italy. Based on the writings of philosopher and naturalist Baptiste Morizot, whose work proposes a distinctive way of thinking with wolves, it was commissioned for Thinking Like a Mountain, a two-year programme of artistic projects developed with local communities across the Bergamo province. Morizot rejects the long-standing opposition between humans and wilderness, asking instead how different species negotiate shared territories. The title refers to Paraflu, a widely used Italian brand of automotive antifreeze. It recalls a real-life case in which the coolant was used to poison wolves. Documentary sequences and images generated using artificial intelligence are interwoven, reflecting both the wolf’s return and the changing ways in which it is represented.

Michela de Mattei’s practice explores structures of power and control while investigating the role of non-human beings and the ways in which systems of communication are transformed.

The duo Invernomuto develop research-based projects that unfold across time and space, generating interconnected cycles of work structured by an open, rhizomatic logic.
