Katariin Mudist — Solution temporaire, 2026

With Temporary Solution, Katariin Mudist brings together a multitude of doorstops collected from cultural institutions in Estonia, the Lyon region and beyond. These anonymous objects, designed to keep doors open, reveal a discreet economy of reuse, adaptation and everyday improvisation. Conceived as immediate responses to minor problems, they gradually become embedded in the organisation of the spaces they inhabit. The artist thus observes how simple gestures and improvised solutions evolve into shared habits. By relocating these functional objects into the exhibition space, she reveals the microadjustments that allow institutions to operate, between material constraints and invisible routines. The installation thus humorously transforms an ordinary detail into an observatory for examining ways of negotiating one’s environment.

Katariin Mudist explores everyday behaviors, provisional solutions, and the subtle logics that shape daily life. Through installations and sculptures inspired by familiar situations, she focuses on details, awkward gestures, and small adjustments that reveal underlying social norms. Her works use humour and displacement to shed light on the conventions and mechanisms that shape relationships with others and with the environment.
