Wilhelm Mundt’s Trashstone was selected by Société Générale as part of Eva Barto’s Sharp Smile protocol. The sculpture belongs to a series the artist has been developing since the late 1980s, each work containing the accumulated remnants of previous sculptures and everyday studio activities. Encased in layers of fibreglass and polyester, these discarded materials disappear beneath a smooth, polished surface. Waste becomes the hidden substance of the sculpture, carrying traces of earlier decisions, processes and forms. By converting studio debris into a singular collectible object, the work draws attention to the processes through which the art market produces and assigns value.

Wilhelm Mundt uses waste and leftover materials from his studio, and occasionally personal objects, to create his works. Known as Trashstones, these sculptures explore the relationships between content and appearance, the visible and the invisible, recycling and valorisation.
